Games of the day

Jrue Holiday had 26 points and 11 rebounds, and Jayson Tatum made up for a rough shooting night with 12 assists and nine rebounds as the Boston Celtics beat the Dallas Mavericks 105-98 to take a 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals. Jaylen Brown scored 21 points, Tatum had 18 and Derrick White also scored 18 points for Boston. Tatum was 6 for 22 shooting and 1 of 7 from 3-point range. The Celtics as a team were 10 for 39 from long distance overall. Luka Doncic, who was listed as questionable to play less than two hours before the opening tipoff, scored 32 points with 11 rebounds and 11 assists, which was the first NBA Finals triple-double in Mavericks franchise history. Kyrie Irving, who’s been the most hated person in Boston ever since he left after 2019, scored 16 points. Irving has lost 12 games in a row against the Celtics. Game 3 is Wednesday night in Dallas. The Mavericks need a win then or in Game 4 on Friday to avoid a sweep and earn a trip back to the Boston Garden.

NBA Finals Matchup

(1) Boston vs (5) Dallas: Series is 2-0

Dallas has the best player in the series, but Boston has the overall better team. Luka and Kyrie have to play at their absolute best to give Dallas a chance.

(Game 1) Boston was on fire from 3 point range, and at one point in the first half doubled the Mavs up, 58-29. Dallas brought it to within 8, but the Celtics pulled away again.

(Game 2) Luka had his 7th triple double of the playoffs, but Kyrie struggled again, his second straight game of less than 20 points. The Celtics won this game by committee, with 5 of the 8 guys to play scoring in double digits. The Mavs could’ve pulled to within 3 in the final seconds, but the refs missed a crucial call on a PJ Washington dunk attempt.

Prediction: Mavs in 7
